Q: Have you ever experienced any babies with birth defects?
A: "Yes, I have experienced many birth defects in the babies I've worked with."
Q: What kind of defects did the babies have?
A: "The most common defect I've experienced is called Gastroschisis. This means that the baby is born with their intestines outside of their body. Another common defect is called Cleft Palate."
Q: Do these babies normally survive birth?
A: "Yes, the babies do survive birth, as there are solutions to fix the disorders."
Q: Did they have to go under surgery if they did survive?
A: "Most Gastroschisis babies have to undergo surgery to put their intestines back into their body. Cleft Palate babies have surgery as well."
Q: What were the long term effects of the disorders on the babies?
A: "For the Gastroschisis babies, there are temporary feeding problems, but other than that, they usually go home normal. Long term effects on the Cleft Palate babies include using a special feeding bottle. It can also scar their upper lips, and make them more prone to ear infections and speech problems. However, most long term effects are emotional."
