Fused limbs, also known as sirenomelia, is a rare congenial birth defect where an infant's legs or feet are fused together. About 1 in every 70,000 infants are born with it although, many die shortly after birth because of deformation or absence of organs Sich as kidneys and bladders. It often develops in the early period of fetal development due to a malfunction in the cIrculatory system of the fetus where the lower limbs are deprived of oxygen and nutrients. Low or no blood flow to the lower region causes the limbs or organs to not develop completely.
